Conversations and Connections at the 2016 NIC Fall Conference

Registration is underway for the 2016 NIC Fall Conference, September 14–16 in downtown Washington, D.C. With full schedules of networking and programming for all three days, the conference will attract seniors housing and care leaders focused on shoring up connections and adding their voices to discussions central to the industry.

Connections Take Central Stage

The conference offers attendees a host of networking opportunities—from small-scale, intimate settings for one-on-one meetings, to receptions designed for making large numbers of contacts in a short period of time.

• Networking lounges: Take advantage of dedicated meeting space in the networking lounges, which will be open all three days of the conference.
• NIC-hosted receptions: Participate in receptions on Wednesday and Thursday to connect with peers and meet new contacts.
• 5k Fun Run/Walk: Get energized with your peers with the 5k fun run/walk on Thursday morning.
• Conference Online Community: Network before, during, and after the event through the website, which is accessible to registered attendees only. Schedule meetings, view messages from other attendees, and contribute to community posts.

Programming

Popular Program Features Return in 2016

Two program features that debuted at the conference in 2015 will return this year.

The pre-conference Seniors Housing Boot Camp will provide capital providers and developers who are new to the seniors housing and care industry insight into the property investment decision process. This highly interactive workshop will use an actual case study to show participants how to analyze the key decision points for a property acquisition and how to assess a prospective transaction.

NIC Talks is a series of 12-minute talks by industry insiders and outside disruptors, who will provide a window into the future of aging in America. The speakers will share how they believe the next ten years will revolutionize the aging experience of the boomers, who begin turning 80 in 2026, and will transform the field of housing, personal care, and health care for America’s elders.

Politics and Policy at the Conference Luncheon

Politics will be a central talking point at the Conference Luncheon, with the nation heading to the polls less than two months after the conference ends.

Veteran political observers David Brooks and E.J. Dionne will share their perspectives on the likely winners in November and the impact of a new president and new Congress on key areas of public policy, such as tax reform, health care, housing, and entitlement programs.

Strategy and Adaptability in Focus

Adaptability will be a key buzzword this year, as providers of both care and capital begin to implement strategies to respond to changes—from today’s shifts in policy and capital markets, to tomorrow’s competitive landscape and more demanding customer.

The schedule of concurrent sessions include: 

• Who Has the Money . . . and at What Cost? The Changing Capital Markets: Hear industry veterans’ perspectives on capital market trends, pricing, liquidity, and the factors shaping these trends.
• Population Shifts: What Changing Demographics Mean for Markets and Products: Discover how the seniors housing and care customer is changing and what you will need to do from a marketing and operational perspective to serve them.
• The Ever-Changing World of Skilled Nursing: The Impact of CMS Initiatives: Explore how CMS is pushing operators to look at how they’re delivering and coordinating care. Panelists will share responses to CMS’ efforts, tactics and models that are working well or not working, and new opportunities that are emerging.
• Double Your Knowledge About Current Markets: Hear from NIC Chief Economist Beth Mace on the most recent NIC Seniors Housing Bluebook report, including the macro economy, Federal Reserve Board policy, interest rates, current supply and demand conditions, and transactions, as well as NIC MAP® data initiatives.
• Underwriting Properties in Today’s Supply Growth Environment: Review tools for modeling a market’s supply and demand dynamics, as well as best practices for conducting market feasibility analyses.
