NIC Talks, a newly added feature to the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC) Fall Conference, designed to spark conversation about the future of aging through individual 12 minute talks.

Industry insiders and outside disruptors will draw on their experience and knowledge to answer the question, “What do you envision happening over the next 10 years (2016 – 2026) that will revolutionize the aging experience of the first boomer turning 80 in 2026?”

NIC is pleased to announce Michael Townsend, founder and COO of HomeHero will participate in the talks as an outside disruptor.

What can be learned from such a young entrepreneur? Well, quite a lot it seems. The drive to bridge the gap between the issues facing seniors care and young tech people who aren’t looking to solve these problems, is exactly how Mike has become so successful. One thing is for sure, change is before us and rising to that change requires new and innovative solutions tomeet the needs of our aging population.

We believe that every family deserves access to trusted and affordable home care for their aging loved-ones, and we will continue fighting until we make that vision a reality.

HomeHero, is a tech focused company delivering the fastest, most-affordable way to find quality in-home care for seniors. HomeHero is a new marketplace and technology platform with the aim of helping families find, hire, and manage in-home care for seniors. Types of care range from around-the-clock care to daily assistance to weekly drop-ins, and can include everything from companionship to chores and housekeeping. Today, HomeHero has more than 1,500 caregivers in its network, operating in Los Angeles, San Diego County and the San Francisco Bay area.

In less than two years, HomeHero has become the highest-rated health care start-up in the country, and in 2014 received a Webby Award for Best Employment Website. HomeHero has an investor board led by Chamath Palihapitiya, a world leading tech investor in the Healthcare industry, having raised $600M to fund startups. To top off a successful start, HomeHero recently secured $20M in Series A funding, which it will use to expand the service to the Bay Area.

In May of 2013, Mike and co-founder Kyle Hill turned their focus to the healthcare industry and started to raise funds for HomeHero. January 2014 HomeHero was launched.

In July, 2014, on behalf of HomeHero, Mike was invited to attend the Open Data Conference held by White House staff, including the Chief Technology Officer of United States, Todd Parks.
